Collinswell Estate 1900-2020

This presentation sets out to show the transformation of the Collinswell area of the town over a period of 120 years - from peaceful pastures to an industrial complex for the greater part of the 20th century ,and now, in the 21st century, a pleasant housing development. Much of the presentation is devoted to the aluminium plant but it is by no means a history of the factory which is beyond the scope of this effort. The Burntisland Heritage Trust holds a wealth of photographs taken during the lifetime of the plant.

Burntisland 1883 Harbour Area

This short video is inspired by the award winning model railway layout, Burntisland 1883. It introduces the harbour and railway complex in the late Victorian period.

The People and the Place

In 2003 Burntisland Heritage were gifted a copy from ALCAN of the VHS video recording ‘The People and the Place’. With a cast of more than 30 employees this aptly named video was prepared by the people, for the people, at the time of the closure of the plant in 2002.

 

Burntisland Common Good Paintings Conservation and Restoration Project (2019-2020)

More than a decade ago three important Burntisland Common Good paintings were examined by painting conservation professionals and their recommendation was that all of the paintings were in serious need of restoration. This is the story of how the paintings have now been protected and conserved for the benefit of the community, visitors to the town and future generations..

 

Burntisland Burgh Chambers and the Andrew Young Paintings Collection

This is a tour of the Burntisland Burgh Chambers which remain a relatively intact example of an early Scottish Town Hall. The Burgh Chambers also house a collection of 21 paintings by Andrew Young (1854-1925) who was a local artist, photographer and historian. These are all depicted in this slideshow video.

Burntisland Now and Then

Based on the theme of the 2011 Burntisland Heritage Exhibition, complete with a musical soundtrack. Over 150 images are included, contrasting the present-day town with old Burntisland. The locations of old black and white photographs have been re-photographed in colour from the same vantage point, and both the old and the new images are shown. The final five minutes give a snapshot of Burntisland as it is today. Compiled by Ian Archibald.

Portrait of a Town Part 3

This This walk starts at the falls at Starley Burn and leads to the High Street with a Christmas 2020 parade of the shops, businesses and eateries accompanied by the Burntisland Novice and Juvenile Pipe Band. The excursion continues for an overview of the town from the Lammerlaws. It carries on along the promenade and depending on the tide, a foreshore safari to Pettycur, or a pavement walk to Alexander III monumentri to Pettycur, or a pavement walk to Alexander III monument

Burntisland’s Inner Heritage Trail and Historic Walk has been a feature in the town during the summer months for more than four decades. The walk captures the history and character of the town from the 16th century to the present day. It starts and ends at the Burgh Chambers. This slideshow video is a snapshot of the town’s rich history and heritage.

 

Portrait of a Town Part 2

Burntisland’s Outer Heritage Trail guided walk has been a monthly feature in the town during the summer months for many years now. The walk starts on the west corner of the Links. It covers about 4 miles (6.5km) and climbs to the summit of the Binn 632 feet (193 metres) and ends at the Lammerlaws headland. As well as showing panoramic views this slideshow video takes a glimpse at Burntisland’s wealth of historical, natural and industrial heritage.

 

Albert Gunn's Story

This is an interview from Burntisland Heritage Trust's Oral History Project. It features Burntisland born Albert Gunn who joined the RAF as an Air Gunner in 1943. That same year on the 29th December he failed to return from a raid to Berlin.

Kirkton Church Restoration Project
In 2013 Burntisland Heritage Trust were concerned about the ongoing deterioration of the town's priceless medieval site, the Kirkton Church and churchyard. A project team was established with the principal long term aim was of saving the church from further decay and ultimate collapse. This is a brief overview of the project and how its aim to reopen the site to locals and visitors alike was achieved in Spring 2018.

 

Burntisland's Blessing 2001

A short film featuring notable events from Burntisland’s rich and diverse history, including the sinking of King Charles I's ferry in 1633. Compiled by Ian Archibald. (Originally published for VHS in 2001, and as a DVD in 2007.)

The Fairytale for CHAS

This video is shown courtesy of the Burntisland Pipe Band. In December 2020 the Burntisland and District Novice Juvenile Band decided to get into the Christmas spirit by creating a Christmas music video and raising funding for CHAS (Children’s Hospices Across Scotland). In the video, members of the band, which is made up of young people from the ages of eight to 17, can be seen in their festive outfits beside Christmas decorations, playing the Christmas tune, ‘The Fairytale’.
